What if Apple and Samsung made a phone, together?

An insight into the why of collaboration between companies

Imagine a phone that Apple and Samsung Electronics made together.(Now, I know for that to work it would mean that both companies have to in a sense, merge their ecosystems, which I realize is not going to happen. Which is why I'm not talking about how it would look like and only talking about why it could.)

Let's see how it would look like from the perspective of the brands themselves and then take a look at it from the customer's point of view.

I think that by collaborating with your rival companies, you are basically opening yourself to their customers. But on the flip side, a collaboration like this is most likely going to be a one-off. Because the one reason you would want to do something like this is to open your features to users of another platform and use it as a funnel to your own products. A phone made by two of the largest tech giants in the world would definitely raise a lot of hype.

For the industry, it could be a way to minimize on the shortcomings and create a product with essentially, no flaws. As Marques Brownlee explains that his idea of the perfect phone is one which takes certain elements of the industry and packs them together in one. For instance, the software optimization of Apple and the cameras of Google's Pixel Phones. google pixel.jpg

Even though on paper, something like this sounds super cool, I don't know if it is meant for the average consumer. I mean sure, tech nerds would definitely buy this phone and customize it to their preferences, but hardly anyone makes changes to their devices which are significant enough that it can be differentiated from a factory-set up phone. Hence, it doesn't make sense for an average consumer to switch unless their phone is getting slow/ not working as properly.

My question to you is: Would you buy it?
